The Curacao flag is so simple yet attractive. It features a dark blue field and a yellow narrow horizontal stripe located just below the middle. At the top left corner, there are two white five-pointed stars in the canton. This is all about the design of the flag of Curacao. This flag looks simple but it represents the country of Curacao as well as the island region of the Netherlands Antilles from 1984, until its dissolution in 2010. The flag was hoisted for Curacao and its affiliates, for whom the Dutch flag had never been used. 

The horizontal bars have a ratio of 5:1:2, blue:yellow: blue, respectively. The diameter of the stars is ⅙ and 9/2 is the flag’s height. Also, the smaller center is ⅙ the height of the flag from the left and top edges, and the larger center is ⅓ of the left and top edges. Blue is Pantone 280 and yellow is Pantone 102.

In the flag Curacao the blue color represents the sea and the sky, more specifically the lower blue part denotes the sea and the upper blue part denotes the sky. A yellow stripe, which separates two parts of the blue field, represents the radiant sun that bathes the island.

  • Today’s flag was adopted in 1982 and it has a simple blue field with a yellow diagonal stripe and two pentagonal stars in the upper left corner.
